Isomer performed a FEED study for a new low consistency storage system at an existing ag-based fiber pulp mill. The existing pulp mill’s ongoing reliability issues were causing frequent upset operating conditions and downtime in the adjacent product converting line. Isomer worked with the Owner to develop an intermediate storage concept that could be added to the existing stock preparation system and serve as a buffer between the batch pulping and continuous converting processes. A conceptual layout within an existing tank farm was established to minimize impact to ongoing operations while also avoiding costly sitework to expand beyond the originally-constructed footprint. The also team developed a preliminary mass balance, equipment list, and obtained major OEM quotes to serve as input for an AAC Class 5 capital cost estimate.
