Isomer was engaged to perform an FEL-1 feasibility study and capital cost estimate for a critical elements recovery facility designed to process 1,000 mtpd of ultramafic tailings, integrating direct air capture of CO2 for carbon sequestration and electrolytic production of sulfuric acid. The process scope included electrolysis, direct air capture, leaching tanks, and precipitation reactors for mineral recovery. The primary process design scope included reviewing and commenting on the customer’s process flow diagram and material balance for design optimization and gap analysis, development of a conceptual site layout for a prospective site, and generation of an AACE Class 5 Cost Estimate for the facility. Additional tasks included performing a scaling study to determine the appropriate commercial plant scale, as well as preparing a basic financial model (pro forma) that could further be modified and used for assessing various project economics.
