EXPERIENCE

Chemical Railcar Containment Area Replacement

Isomer was initially engaged to study replacing an aging modular containment system in an existing chemical railcar loadout area with a new concrete containment area. Isomer explored both precast and cast in place concrete options to evaluate the cost and schedule impacts of each, which was critical for planning preliminary outage durations for the work to occur. The team worked with the Owner to develop the project scope before ultimately producing an AACE Class 3 cost estimate to support the project funding request. Isomer proceeded directly into detailed design and worked with local rail contractors to develop details for sensitive interfaces between the rail and containment slab, as well as details for draining the containment area into existing process water sumps. The project is currently under construction.
