Isomer was engaged to evaluate the feasibility of firing a secondary biomass fuel in three separate biomass boilers at an existing facility in an effort to reduce the consumption of the primary fuel source. The team performed a site visit and reviewed existing boiler efficiency studies and energy and steam balances to quantify the total energy offset required. After working with testing laboratories to develop a material profile on the secondary fuel source, Isomer developed a boiler-specific study scope of work for a boiler OEM to complete the preliminary design of boiler modifications and evaluate potential permitting implications. In addition to performing a comprehensive review of the boiler retrofit scope, Isomer worked with the Owner to develop alternative means of offsetting primary fuel consumption.
