EXPERIENCE

Rotary Strainer Structural Design

Isomer was engaged to provide structural engineering services to support the installation of a new rotary strainer for a milling tandem at an operating sugar mill. In addition to the strainer, the scope included new screw conveyors and juice tanks, all of which were installed within the existing building footprint and partially within below-grade pits. Isomer engineers conducted a site visit to perform a laser scan of the area and define the extent of demolition required, which included large-scale removal of existing structures and equipment as well as reframing of existing platforms. The team collaborated with the owner and geotechnical engineer to develop a layout that minimized excavation of the existing pit and reduced the risk of costly dewatering during construction. The final design included a new platform and foundation system with several unique details tailored to the spatial constraints of the existing facility and intended to improve overall constructability.
