Isomer was engaged to provide structural engineering services to design a new multi-story building extension to house a relocated clarifier and aeration tank at an existing sugar mill. The 2,000-square-foot building extension was located in a congested area of the mill, requiring several unique framing and foundation considerations to avoid existing equipment. Working collaboratively with the Owner, Isomer developed a layout that met operational needs while requiring only a single new column and foundation, reducing both installation cost and risk. The new pile-supported foundation was designed to span over existing foundations to improve overall constructability. Isomer also worked with the Owner to proactively design the main framing members to accommodate loading from planned future expansions, enabling maximum flexibility to meet operational needs.
